17-year-old rapist may remain in country Associated Press STERLING HEIGHTS, MI - A 17-year-old boy accused of impregnating his 12-year-old sister was arraigned Wednesday on a felony rape count. Prosecutors are considering an agreement that would allow him to plead guilty to a misdemeanor of criminal sexual conduct which would allow him to remain in the country. Surprisingly, support for the boy came from Salt Lake City and the Mormon community. "We faithful Mormons see nothing wrong with what the boy has done," commented long time polygamist Jeremy Smith. "Since our inception the Mormon community has been taking multiple wives, some younger than the girl in question. At some point inbreeding is unavoidable." "That is precisely the problem," said Michigan district attorney Susan Thompson. "The Mormon's practices of inbreeding have long been a problem that biologists and physiologists have been concerned with." Smith responds, "there's nothing to worry about. We've been doing it for years and we're fine. Just look at us." "I rest my case," responded Thompson. The girl's family, immigrants who have been in the Unite States on green cards for about a year, went to court to win the right for her to have a late-term abortion. On cue, Republican voices broke the silence denouncing the family's desire for an abortion of any kind. "Abortion is not an acceptable alternative," said Dallas, TX, native Steven Kilpatrick. "Even in such a strange and deplorable, although fairly amusing, situation." "We would rather have an inbred, physiologically damaged baby born. One that will be a horrendous financial and physical burden for it's entire natural life, than to do the humane thing and dispatch it," said Kimberly Stoneman, an accountant from Los Angeles, CA. ©Copyright 2004, SHF News |
