Plans for the largest Arkansas mall suspended USA Today Feb. 18, 2004 LITTLE ROCK, AR - A development group that sought clearance to build what would have been the largest mall in Arkansas said it's dropping plans for the project. Indiana-based Simon Property Group backed out of building the 1.1 million-square-foot Summit Mall in Little Rock. Mayor Jim Dailey said Simon Property didn't believe such a large mall would be feasible within the Little Rock demographic. "Whatcha mean there weren't gonna be no Walmart in the mall?" asked Cecil Thornapple. "That jus' don't make no dagblum sense, now, do it?" "Targit? Now dat dere sounds like a good store," commented Johnny Longson, an admitted hunter wearing his NRA baseball cap. "I been wonderin' if they's ever gonna make a store that jus' sells targits. Now I knows where's to go." When asked how she felt about the eateries, including Black Angus, Carvers, Red Lobster & P.F. Changs, Little Rock resident Sherlee Hanker said she would "prefer to eat at a 'White Angus' but I figure a negro Angus would be alright." "Let's face it," Daily said, "if there is anything other than a K-Mart or Walmart in the mall chances are pretty good that the white trash ... er … uh, I mean good citizens of Little Rock will not embrace such a mall. Do you really think a Sharper Image store is going to appeal to a family of six with a total combined tooth count of 11?" SHF News Investigative Reporter Dick Birchum left Arkansas as quickly as he could so none of the White Trash could wear off on him. ©Copyright 2004, SHF News |
