Man accused of cutting girlfriend's hair faces trial Associated Press January 18, 2006 Warren, MI - A judge has ordered a trial on a domestic violence charge for a 22-year-old man who is accused of shaving off his 18-year-old girlfriend's eyebrows and nearly waist-length hair. Gruenburg dismissed a more serious kidnapping charge against James Garvin of Warren after Nicole Carter denied that Garvin held her against her will and said that what happened between them Dec. 7-9 was consensual. "You heard that, right?" asked Garvin when questioned. "It was consensual!" Investigators say Carter went to Garvin's house in Warren. She later called her grandmother, who came to the house with police, authorities say. "She came out with no coat on... two black eyes and no hair," said Joan Yurisich, Carter's grandmother, according to The Detroit News. Defense lawyer Maroun Hakim pointed to Carter's testimony and said the accusations against his client are meritless. "She asked my client, who is a licensed hair dresser, for a new look and she got one," said Hakim from his office. "They apparently just had a disagreement on what the 'new look' she wanted would be." When asked about the black eyes Hakim replied, "Oh, that's just from some marathon tea bagging. What? You think she came over only for a haircut?" ©Copyright 2006, SHF News |
